About Us
Short Avenue Elementary School is a small, TK-5th grade, public school located in the Del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. We pride ourselves on being a diverse, community-based school with a strong focus on student agency and international mindedness. Dedicated to the whole child, the thoughtful curriculum includes an inquiry driven model that views students as partners in learning, with their interests and curiosities at the forefront of our decision making. Short Ave. just received the distinguished honor of being authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School. We are one of only three public IB elementary schools in LAUSD, and proud to be joining the worldwide community of IB schools. The vision of IB is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who have the integrity to become successful, disciplined, and responsible citizens of the world. Stop by the school and you will see delightful, happy children blossoming from a dedicated and caring staff of teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators, bolstered by passionate and committed parents and volunteers.
Short Avenue Mission Statement
Short Avenue Elementary School's mission calls upon all staff and parents, in working together, to enrich our students through innovative real-world, student-centered, concept-based learning. Through this process of inquiry, collaboration, communication, design, and critical thinking, all students will confidently exhibit 21st Century skills that will effectively prepare them for a world of diverse, global opportunities. In addition, Short Avenue students will understand how their comprehensive education provides them with, not just the knowledge and skills, but also the integrity to become productive, disciplined, and responsible citizens of the world.
"Skills that will prepare them for a world of diverse, global opportunities."
