About Us
Short Avenue Elementary is a small, public school located in the Del Rey area of Los Angeles. We pride ourselves in being a diverse, community-based school with multiple enrichment programs in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Language, and Mathematics. The community surrounding the school, including parents, students, and staff, are dedicated to its success and contribute much of their time and talents to ensure that the students receive a well-balanced education. Many of the staff members have been working at the school for more than 15 years and they think of the students and families as their own. Focused on the whole child, the thoughtful curriculum includes TK-6, school-wide hands-on science projects, Latin for all classes, technology education, visual and performing art classes, STEAM Exhibition Nights, and much more. Teachers are incorporating technology into their everyday instruction through the use of iPads, Chromebooks, and Google Classroom. Short Avenue is in the candidacy phase of becoming an International Baccalaureate World School and excited about the opportunities that this program will bring. Stop by the school and you will see delightful, happy children blossoming from dedicated, caring, enthusiastic and happy teachers, staff and principal, bolstered by passionate and committed parents and volunteers.
Mission Statement
Short Avenue Elementary School's mission calls upon all staff and parents, in working together, to enrich our students through innovative real-world, student-centered, project-based learning. Through this process of inquiry, collaboration, communication, design, and critical thinking, all students will confidently exhibit 21st Century skills that will effectively prepare them for a world of diverse, global opportunities. In addition, Short Avenue students will understand how their comprehensive education provides them with, not just the knowledge and skills, but also the integrity to become productive, disciplined, and responsible citizens of the world.
