Teaching children is a great way to spend one’s life. I feel grateful to have a job working with children. They brighten my days, keep life interesting, and challenge me to grow. I have been working and volunteering at Short Avenue since 1991. I volunteered in my sons’ classrooms; then, I was hired as a yard and supervision aide for two years. After that, I was the school librarian for two years. I taught fifth grade for one year; and have been teaching fourth grade, ever since. It is a blessing to do something for a long time, not only to have a career; but to get to know the curriculum, community, and children of this age quite well.
In addition to teaching, I continue to dance. I’ve traveled to Brazil, Turkey, Holland, Denmark, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, and to various places in the United States; to perform, choreograph, teach dance, and direct a dance company. I love to spend time at my church and sing with our women’s worship team. I am married to the handsome and talented Mr. Shigekawa; and I have two amazing grown sons, for whom I am very thankful. I also have fun watching the Rams, Dodgers, Lakers, Kings, Galaxy, and LAFC!
