Karen Reynolds - Principal
I am delighted to be the principal of Short Avenue Elementary School and feel fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, teachers, and staff members since the summer of 2016. Our vision of quality education remains constant, as does our belief that students need to triumph academically, socially, and emotionally. Short Avenue is a collaborative community of learners where students develop skills to become critical thinkers and responsible global citizens, where they practice the IB Learner Profiles and strive to be inquirers, risk-takers, communicators, thinkers, principled, knowledgeable, balanced, reflective, open-minded, and caring. We value our students’ social-emotional development as much as their academic development. Our school community is based on collaboration—between students, teachers, and our community. Parent involvement is welcomed and an integral piece of the Short Avenue community. Our integrated curriculum provides our students a rich, balanced experience that celebrates the whole child. I believe students’ interests and curiosity provide intrinsic motivation that lead students on a road of life-long learning with teachers as facilitators. As an administrator, I encourage students and teachers to meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, values diversity, and encourages inquiry and critical thinking. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and a Masters/Administrative Credential from CSUN. I have worked in LAUSD for over thirty-five years. In my spare time, I love to travel, read, and exercise. I have two wonderful children, who are both alumni from UC Santa Cruz. |
